The three reservoirs in the wooded Linacre Valley total around 200 acres and are owned by Severn Trent Water. The Linacre Valley project is managed in partnership with Derbyshire County Councils Countryside Service.Events are staged regularly. The woodland surrounding the three reservoirs are a mix of decidious and coniferous, the bluebells carpeting the woods in spring are a wonderful sight.
From Chesterfield ,take the B6050 ,past Cutthorpe (site of this years waxwing erruption).Linacres reservoirs are clearly sign posted from this road
Visitor facilities include car parks ,toilets ,picnic benchs, good paths ,suitable for cycling as well as walking.Having cycled around the siteI would recommend it ,you may however get covered in mud!
The lesser spotted woodpeckers that can be heard in the woods are a lot easier to hear than see!Mandarin ducks are resident more or less all year round .Last year (2007) there were around a hundred.I have the happy memory of seeing my first Great Crested Grebe at Linacre.Nuthatches and treecreepers abound. In spring ,the woods are filled with warbler song.Grey wagtails and great spotted woodpeckers are present all year round.last month April 2008 ,a welcome sight was a goosander pair.Winter is best for wildfowl.Anytime of year is good for a walk around this picturesque valley
